PATRICK KNOWLES DESIGN – A HISTORY
Patrick Knowles Design is an award-winning interior design firm, which has delivered bespoke, and one-of-the-kind interiors for private yachts, planes, and residences to select clients across the world.
Knowles has a long love and history with the glory of the ocean. He was born in the Bahamas, an island nation with one of the world’s most spectacular marine environments.
Knowles was the ninth of 10 siblings, and his father Eldridge was the major influence in his life who helped him foster a love of water.
“Exposure to the sea through my father, an avid boater, instilled in me a strong attraction to water,” he says. “Being a yacht designer is a very natural expression for me.”
Knowles arrived in the United States in 1983, when he was to attend college in Florida. He founded his design firm, Patrick Knowles Design, ten years later.
He has completed over 140 designs over the years and is in greater demand than ever. He has many American-made luxury yachts in his portfolio, but he has also worked with several international clients.
An important part of the service list at Patrick Knowles Design is the concierge service that offers a support system to clients to service their already designed and delivered yachts.
Knowles is expanding from marine design into residential and high-end product design. Knowles is responsible for conceptualizing a London Mayfair resident who is seven stories.
He is also working on a New York project, where he is designing silverware, crockery, crystal, and linens, as well as a residential interior for a client.
He will work on another residential interior in Key Largo in the Bahamas. These residential projects stem from yacht clients who have enjoyed his passion for design and an eye for detail.
This is Knowles’ signature, rather than a signature look like most luxury designers have.
“My yacht clients began to commission us for their private residences and corporate offices. For the first time in my career, we are engaged in more land-based projects than marine or aviation,” Knowles spoke on the subject.
“We are also currently in discussion for the design of several new yachts which would rectify that equation. I am very grateful that some 80 percent of our work is repeat business and referrals.”
PATRICK KNOWLES DESIGN – NOTABLE LAUNCHING
Knowles continues to work on several innovative designs and has had several launches that have shaped Patrick Knowles Yacht Design Studio into its current design entity.
INEVITABLE (now RASA) was completed in 2001 and was built by Palmer Johnson in 1999.
