Philip Niarchos is a Greek billionaire and shipping magnate. He has a net worth of $2.8 billion. Niarchos is the eldest son of Greek shipping magnate Stavros Niarchos and his third wife, Eugenie Livanos.

He inherited a substantial fortune from his father when he died. He also inherited an extensive art collection from his father. He is the owner of the superyacht ATLANTIS II.

The late Stavros Spyros Niarchos (1909-1996) was an infamous Greek shipping magnate and billionaire who completely revolutionized global shipping.

He was married five times. Philip Niarchos’s mother is Eugenie Livanos, his father’s third wife. Eugenie died of a drug overdose, and Stavros went on to marry Eugenie’s sister, Tina. 

Upon his death, Stavros left his substantial fortune to his four children Eugenie, a nephew, and a great-nephew, and left 20% in a charitable trust. He noticeably left out his fifth child, Elena Ford, from the inheritance.

Philip Niarchos is the co-president and member of the board of directors at the Stavros Niarchos Foundation. The Foundation is a philanthropic organization that makes grants to the arts, sciences, health, sports, and culture. The Foundation was founded in 1996 in honor of Stavros Niarchos.

Niarchos owns the ATLANTIS II, which was one of three sister ships. Niarchos’ father, Stavros, had the boat built to outclass his rival shipping magnate, Aristotle Onassis. Onassis was the owner of the infamous yacht, CHRISTINA O. She was built in Niarchos’ own shipyard, Hellenic Shipyard, in 1981.

Niarchos also owns a private jet, an (M-ATEX) Dassault Falcon 8X model.

Niarchos inherited an extensive art collection from his father. The collection was perched for $3 million by actor Edward G. Robinson in 1957. The collection includes some of the world’s most recognizable pieces, such as Pablo Picasso’s self-portrait, Yo, Picasso

The collection is also the biggest private collection of Van Gogh’s works and includes his ear-less portrait. Niarchos has significantly added to the collection with post-war and contemporary works from artists like Andy Warhol and Maurizio Cattelan.

Niarchos is a member of the board of trustees at the Museum of Modern Art in New York City and an international council member of the Tate Gallery in London. 

Niarchos has been involved in the art world throughout his life. Niarchos was heavily featured in The Andy Warhol Diaries, where Warhol shares the details of Niarchos’ dysfunctional relationship with Barbara de Kwiatkowski. Niarchos’ CAT scans were used to create Warhol’s skull portraits.


Niarchos was married to Victoria Christina Guinness. She is the daughter of Patrick Benjamin Guinness, a member of the banking Guinness family. Victoria and Niarchos married in 1984 and share two daughters and two sons. The couple is now divorced. 

Their children are Stavros Niarchos II, who married Russian-American art dealer Dasha Zhukova; Eugenie Niarchos, a jewelry designer; and Theodorakis Niarchos and Electra Niarchos.
